Troye Sivan’s fourth studio album “She’s The Best” is a tribute to all women and relationships that have built his character

Troye Sivan’s latest release pictures love from angles unique to his previous records. In his fourth studio album “She’s the Best”, we are brought into the depths of his inner core and what truly matters to him. He teases this with the lead single of the same title, paying homage to strong female personalities who have shaped him. This precedes the whole appreciative nature of the album, playing around with themes of gratitude and affirmations for the future.
The 12-track album seems to be his most experimental one yet, with dance tracks “Canada Dry” and “Party” carrying the playfulness from his previous EP. This swoops into a different trajectory though with “Embarrassingly”, an invigorating ballad intoxicating us just as much as it does Troye with his muse. In comparison to his previous work that thrived off the electropop scene, Sivan takes it a notch down, substituting a few dance tracks with softer indie-alternative influences that convey the sullen essence of reminiscing such intimacy within one’s self.

The singer values authenticity throughout his creative process, redefining all of his constants into psychedelic melodies. Throughout the constant push and pull between tracks, he does an endearing switch from the wholesomeness of his female friendships to his daydreams of a future partner. It’s a testament of the bond between women and the queer-identifying. Sivan expounds on this through the choices he made for the album and lead single, hoping to put more emphasis on the purity of these friendships rather than focusing on brief messy hookups.
Even then, the romantic songs don’t feel disheartening. It’s quite emancipating being single and having no bounds to fantasize about a future lover. He takes us on a ride from the highs of partying with interpolations from Madonna’s music, who has been a really integral figure for Troye, and suddenly hits us with his longing for his imaginative partner.
It’s sweet, personal, and vulnerable all at the same time. Acknowledging there’s no shame in feeling fragile, the musician hopes listeners find great company through the introspective tracklist.
