Sharon Cuneta and Barbie Forteza lead this powerful ensemble for the new family suspense-drama.

It’s yet another anticipated role for Sharon Cuneta as she graces the international television scene alongside her on-screen daughter, Barbie Forteza. In this Prime Video series, the notions we’ve come to associate with tender mother-daughter relationships are challenged by an unordinary tale of disoriented connections. Bringing familial drama into the world of suspense, this female-led tandem made its debut in Honor Thy Mother, which was nothing short of honorable, during the media conference held last September 8 at Solaire Resort North.

Co-stars John Estrada, Khalil Ramos, Criza Taa, and Mercedes Cabral join the pair, along with directors Onat Diaz and Dolly Dulu. Contrary to the dubious familial relationships portrayed in the show, everyone’s chemistry off-screen was enough for people to mistake them as biologically related. It was definitely an afternoon of delight and surprises, as an exclusive screening for the first episode occurred right after the Q&amp;A portion.
The whole afternoon was spent throwing compliments at one another, especially towards Sharon, who carried the role of a mother even when cameras faced away. Both Barbie and Khalil amplify this statement, speaking of their intimidation towards the veteran star during the initial casting announcements, which has then faded since working with her. It was quite a factor for most ensemble members when considering the project, immediately getting their hands on the material once knowing who their scene partners would be. But aside from the enticing script, Khalil brings light into what’s to be celebrated, “And also the story at its core is about motherhood, and my mom’s here. And I guess this is also my way of honoring her.”

Honor Thy Mother establishes womanhood as a complex unraveling of feminine sensitivity juxtaposed with the strength a woman bears at her core. It’s a portrayal of stern emotions that comes with resentment towards family who have left them in the dark. Holding onto repressed years of regret, Sharon’s character, Diana Aragon, is multidimensional– an initially cold personality who truthfully is just incapable of accepting disrespect from those who try to take advantage of her. She’s yet again another case of ambition in women interpreted into a threat. Yet behind all this intimidation are just the agonized years spent distanced from who truly matters to her– her daughter, Patricia.
Barbie’s character levels with Diana as a reflection of resilience carried through the burdens of being an eldest daughter. From the usual roles of a soft-hearted child she’s familiar with, she leans into her masculinity more with such a boldness that persists just from the pilot episode. It’s a new territory for the actress to be stepping into, and it’s definitely a refreshing introduction to local television.&nbsp;
