Sarimanok-coded eyes, rhinestone accents, and high-impact color theory — BINI’s Summer Sonic 2026 debut was a full-on beauty moment where makeup did the storytelling.

BINI’s Summer Sonic 2026 debut in Osaka was a full visual flex for Filipino creativity on a global stage. <a href="https://www.lofficielph.com/fashion/bini-sarimanok-summer-sonic-2026-outfits">Dressed in Cheetah Rivera’s Sarimanok-inspired looks</a>, the eight-member group delivered a performance that was equal parts fashion fantasy and cultural storytelling, drenched in jewel tones, feathers, and mythic energy.
But the real magic up close?&nbsp; The makeup. Each member was transformed through hyper-tailored eye looks, rhinestones, and color stories that translated the Sarimanok concept into something editorial and stage-ready. L’Officiel Philippines caught up with BINI’s makeup artist Anthea Bueno for the festival to break down the beauty brief.

For Bueno, this wasn’t a one-off concept, but part of BINI’s evolving visual universe. “The fashion direction for BINI’s concerts has really been a journey through the Philippines, led by their creative director, Ica Villanueva. Their previous concerts started with influences from Northern Ifugao, then moved through the Visayas, and now, for this chapter, to Mindanao.”
This chapter centers on the Sarimanok — a mythical bird symbolizing abundance and connection between worlds.&nbsp;
"One of Ica’s main inspirations this time was the Sarimanok, a colorful and magical creature deeply rooted in Mindanaoan culture. She loved the idea of it being a bridge between worlds, which in a way also reflects what BINI hopes to do: bring Filipino culture with them and share it with a bigger, global audience," Bueno tells L'Officiel. "For the beauty direction, we wanted to carry that same vibrant and positive energy while keeping it modern and distinctly BINI. We also drew inspiration from Cheetah Rivera’s creations, incorporating rhinestones and bright, striking colors, with shades chosen specifically to complement each BINI member and their corresponding outfits."

Rather than simply “matching” the costumes, Bueno built the makeup as an extension of the world Cheetah Rivera created. "We always look at the whole picture. It’s not just about creating a beautiful makeup look on its own, but making sure it works with the costumes, the performance, and even the venue and the culture of the place where they’re performing. We took cues from the colors, textures, and details of the costumes, while also knowing when to pull back so the makeup wouldn’t compete with everything else. Ultimately, everything had to feel cohesive, intentional, and appropriate for the event, while still making enough of an impact on stage," Bueno shares.
"The looks are also a more grown-up evolution of two of BINI’s iconic beauty moments from the Salamin, Salamin and Cherry on Top music videos. We revisited those playful, colorful elements that have become part of their visual identity, but interpreted them in a more elevated and polished way for where the girls are now and for a much bigger stage."
With a stage like Summer Sonic, cohesion was key. But the eyes became the focal point.
"I would say the eyes [are a main point], but really, the overall impact was important. Since the inspiration is so colorful and expressive, we wanted the eyes to carry a lot of that character. Each member had a different eye look, using different colors inspired by the Sarimanok while also taking into consideration their individual features and what naturally suited them best.
I worked closely with Julius Cabanisas, BINI’s other main makeup artist, in deciding who would wear which look. We really considered each girl’s features, from which colors complemented them best to the eyeshadow placement and liner angles that would enhance their individual eye shapes. We divided the eight girls between us, with four members each, but the beauty direction was something we worked on together so that all eight looks still spoke the same visual language.
It was important for us to celebrate their individuality, so no two eye looks were exactly the same. But when you see all eight of them together, everything still feels cohesive. The skin, cheeks, and lips were kept more balanced to let the eyes have their moment without overwhelming the entire look.
Especially for a performance, the makeup has to translate from a distance and leave an impact, but I never want to lose the person underneath it. They still have to look and feel like themselves. Seeing all eight of them together in these different colors, rhinestones, and textures, they almost looked like these beautiful, otherworldly creatures, which felt perfect for the magical quality of the Sarimanok inspiration."
Together, Rivera’s fashion and Bueno’s beauty direction turned BINI’s Summer Sonic debut into a memorable fashion and beauty moment that will be talked about globally.
