The line between sleepwear and daywear has never been blurrier.

For decades, menswear built its identity around a clear distinction between public and private dressing, between the structure of daywear and the intimacy of nightwear. That separation is gradually disappearing. Pajamas, dressing gowns, fluid silks, and relaxed silhouettes are moving beyond the bedroom, transforming the aesthetics of the boudoir into the tailoring language of Spring/Summer 2026.
Pajama dressing is more than a shift in taste. It marks a redefinition of contemporary elegance, where comfort becomes an aesthetic value in its own right. The idea isn't new. In the 1920s, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel recognized the potential of the pyjama de plage, wide-leg ensembles worn by high-society women on the beaches of the French Riviera and Venice's Lido, marking one of the earliest moments a garment associated with the home entered public life.

From the velvet smoking jackets of English gentlemen to the elegant dressing gowns of Old Hollywood stars, and later the iconic silk robes that became part of Hugh Hefner's pop culture image in the 1960s, the line between loungewear and formal dress has been crossed many times. If Yves Saint Laurent brought the masculine tuxedo into women's wardrobes in 1966, today's movement goes in the opposite direction, with men embracing the softer, more sensual side of the nighttime wardrobe.

This evolution also owes something to the years spent at home, when comfort took on a new cultural meaning. The idea that it's possible to dress elegantly without sacrificing ease has become firmly embedded in menswear, and the Spring/Summer 2026 collections translate that mindset into a cohesive tailoring proposal.

The runways reflected a trend shared across different brands and creative visions. Dolce&amp;Gabbana embraced the theme most directly with striped silk and cotton pajama sets, lightweight dressing gowns, and crystal embroidery that turned pajamas into eveningwear. At Amiri and Dunhill, the mood recalled old-world luxury through embroidered satin robes, slim scarves tied at the neck, and details inspired by the world of grand hotels.

At the Bourse de Commerce, Anthony Vaccarello presented a Saint Laurent collection built around fluid trousers, tailored shorts, and sand-toned silks, while brands such as Kiko Kostadinov, Sacai, Dries Van Noten, and Ami Paris explored the idea through saturated colors, hybrid proportions, and experimental construction. More than a seasonal moment, pajama dressing emerged as a shared direction that cuts across different design languages and generations.

How do you wear the trend? Pair a pajama shirt with a simple T-shirt, or balance relaxed trousers with polished loafers. A dressing gown can take the place of a blazer, while structured outerwear and refined accessories add definition to the look. The result is a softer take on menswear that sheds some of its rigidity without losing its authority. Comfort, once simply a practical consideration, has become the defining feature of a menswear wardrobe that approaches the present with greater freedom and confidence.
