The haunting echoes of folklore resonate in Nokturno, Mikhail Red’s latest venture into the horror genre. Inspired by the Filipino legend of the kumakatok—entities that knock on doors at night, bringing ominous fates to those who respond—the film melds supernatural elements with poignant family dynamics.

Leading the cast is Nadine Lustre, in her second collaboration with Red after their award-winning film Deleter. Lustre plays Jamie, a strong-willed overseas worker who returns to her small town of San Sebastian following a string of mysterious killings linked to the kumakatok. Her character is caught in a web of personal trauma, a fraught relationship with her estranged mother Lilet (played by Eula Valdez), and the unsettling curse that haunts her family.

The film promises plenty of suspense, especially as Jamie learns her sister Joanna (played by Bea Binene) has fallen victim to the curse. Will Jamie be able to mend their fractured family ties and confront the dark past she tried to escape?

With a cast that includes Wilbert Ross and JJ Quilantang, Nokturno is looking to be a gripping mix of supernatural thrills and heartfelt drama. It will be available on Amazon Prime Video starting October 31, 2024.
