Mitsukoshi celebrates year two with Tanabata traditions, weekend workshops, and rotating sales that make each visit feel new.

Now in its second year, MITSUKOSHI BGC marks the occasion with Tanabata Matsuri&mdash;a summer celebration inspired by the Japanese tale of two lovers who reunite once a year beneath the Milky Way. From bamboo leaves lined with tanzaku cards to interesting activities, the space transforms into something quietly moving and joyfully communal.

The festivities began July 18 with an intimate gathering and Kagami Biraki, a sake-barrel ceremony that marked new beginnings. Mitsuko, the mall&rsquo;s familiar Kokeshi doll, also returned in a new summer look. On July 19, the public joined in with a taiko drum performance and the return of the Maguro Cutting Show.
Alongside the cultural activities is the Grand Matsuri Sale, which runs until August 14. Each week brings a different theme. The promos rotate just enough to keep things fresh, and the experience is less about frenzied sales and more about thoughtful finds.

Weekends from July 19 to August 17 are made for families and the curious. Senbonbiki, a Japanese string-pulling game, lets shoppers with ₱2,500 in receipts win prizes from different brands. Meanwhile, the Natsu Workshop series brings a creative pause, offering everything from terrarium-making to pottery and Kewpie-led sandwich sessions. All are open to walk-ins, no art background needed.
More than a mall event, it&rsquo;s a celebration of connection, of stories passed down and shared across cultures. Whether you stop by for the lanterns, the food, or a quiet moment to write down a wish, there&rsquo;s something that reminds us how we&rsquo;re always trying to reach one another, even across galaxies.
