Metro Manila’s matcha calendar is getting crowded. Between overlapping festivals at MOA and Makati and back-to-back weekends in Marikina, The Podium, and Feliz, August is starting to look like one long celebration of everything green and whisked.

If someone asks what you’re doing this weekend, there’s a good chance the answer involves matcha, and not just getting a cup. You might actually be heading to a matcha festival.
Festivals are popping up across Metro Manila almost every weekend, with some even overlapping, a sign that the city’s appetite for matcha has grown far beyond another drink on the menu.
At this point, matcha has practically earned a place on the city’s calendar.

<h3 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">Whisked &amp; Roasted</h3>
From August 27 to 30, Whisked &amp; Roasted arrives at The Podium with matcha sharing the spotlight with hojicha.

Maybe matcha is generous enough to let another tea have a weekend, too.
The pairing gives this one a slightly different proposition from the matcha-only festivals surrounding it. Alongside the vegetal, umami-forward profiles people have come to expect from matcha, hojicha brings its toasty, nuttier character in.
<h3 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">Pabili Po! Mini Matcha Fest</h3>
On August 29 and 30, Pabili Po! returns to the YL Holdings Building in Legazpi, Makati, bringing its Mini Matcha Fest along with a flea market.

Four matcha brands join a weekend lineup of vintage finds, live portraits, art, a film photobooth, and other activities. Rather than taking over the whole event, matcha becomes part of the flea market mix.
<h3 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">Feliz Matcha Fest</h3>
And on the very same weekend, Feliz Matcha Fest by OMG! Market takes over Ayala Malls Feliz on August 29 and 30.

By then, Whisked &amp; Roasted will still be running at The Podium, while Pabili Po!’s Mini Matcha Fest opens in Makati and Feliz Matcha Fest begins at Ayala Malls Feliz.
With three matcha-centered events happening on the same weekend, the question is no longer whether there is a matcha festival to go to, but which one.
<h3 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">When Every Cup Needs Something Different</h3>
With many brands appearing side by side, standing out has become part of the challenge. Festival exclusives, new preparations, and more distinct menus are becoming part of how each booth makes its case.
The audience too are no longer showing up just to get a matcha latte; they are comparing options, looking for something new, and deciding which brands—and increasingly, which festivals–are worth making the trip for.
Metro Manila clearly likes matcha. What feels newer is the scale of everything being built around it: entire weekends, repeat editions, increasingly experimental menus, and even festivals happening at the same time.
The question may soon stop being whether Manila can support another matcha festival and become something harder: What makes one worth choosing over the other?
For August, at least, the city seems perfectly happy to keep finding out.
