The Art House and Ateneo Art Gallery mark Z&oacute;bel&rsquo;s centennial with a fresh spin on his travels, sketches, and modern flair.

The Art House, in collaboration with the Ateneo Art Gallery, proudly presents the Fernando Z&oacute;bel Centennial Collection &mdash; a creative tribute to the artist&rsquo;s celebrated works and lesser-known passions, showcased in the country&rsquo;s pioneering museum of modern art.

The idea for the collection began when Art House founder Carlo Pineda explored a possible collaboration with the Ateneo Art Gallery. &ldquo;When we presented our portfolio to them, they expressed an interest in our merchandise,&rdquo; he recalls.
Around the same time, the museum was preparing for Fernando Z&oacute;bel&rsquo;s birth centennial. &ldquo;Given that, we felt it would be fitting to pay homage to Z&oacute;bel through a range of merchandise called the Fernando Z&oacute;bel Centennial Collection,&rdquo; Pineda shared.

The collection features a selection of the artist&rsquo;s travel sketches, created during his journeys across the northern region of the Philippines. According to Ma. Victoria &ldquo;Boots&rdquo; Herrera, Director and Chief Curator of the Ateneo Art Gallery, these works offer a rare glimpse into Z&oacute;bel&rsquo;s more personal, observational side. &ldquo;It is important for us to emphasize the importance of drawings and other artistic practices that are often overlooked.&rdquo;
Z&oacute;bel&rsquo;s sketches were translated into a curated line of gift and novelty items &mdash; including catch trays, Japanese umbrellas, cellphone and laptop stands, and coasters. Designed with travel and gifting in mind, the collection took several months to develop. &ldquo;We wanted a compact selection that would echo Z&oacute;bel&rsquo;s modern aesthetic,&rdquo; Pineda shares. Throughout the process, the team approached each item as a gateway to discover and appreciate Filipino artistry.

The Fernando Z&oacute;bel Centennial Collection is now available at the Ateneo Art Gallery at the Soledad V. Pangilinan Arts Wing, Aret&eacute;, Ateneo de Manila University. More than a line of keepsakes, the collection invites visitors to engage with Z&oacute;bel&rsquo;s legacy in a fresh, tangible way.
